Gail Galasko, PhD Florida State University College of Medicine
Gail Galasko Ph.D. is a Professor and Pharmacology course director at Florida State University College of Medicine. She was educated in South Africa (B. Sc. (Hons), M.Sc. University of the Witwatersrand), England (Ph.D. London) and the USA (postdoctoral research fellow Caltech). She has held academic positions at the University of the Witwatersrand, University of Virginia, and Florida State University. Her research has been focused on signaling mechanisms, especially those related to insulin action and type 2 diabetes mellitus. She has been at the forefront of research on a novel family of signaling molecules, the inositolphosphoglycans (IPGs). Her group was the first to identify and characterize the IPG insulin inhibitor, and she was a member of the team that first isolated the insulin mediators and showed their importance in insulin action.
